Jack Lawless
Funeral services for Mr. Jack Lawless, age 87, of Ferriday, were held at the First Baptist Church of Ferriday on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at 10 AM with Rev. Roger Johnson and Rev. Wayne Gray officiating.
Interment followed at Jena Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Lawless was born October 26, 1921 in Laurel, MS, the son of William M. Lawless and Lottie Lawless,  and passed from this life Thursday, August 6, 2009, at Magnolia House in Natchez.
He was a resident of Ferriday and a car salesman for Williams Chevrolet until his retirement.
He served his country during World War II with the United States Air Force. He continued his service in the Air Force Reserves until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Jack was a member of and served as Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Ferriday and was a charter member of the Kiwanas Club of Ferriday.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Edwards Lawless; sisters, Maxine Davis and Dorothy Simmons, and nephew Bill Davis.
Mr. Jack is survived by his nieces, Susan Hughley of New Bean, N.C., Carol Swiss of Grand Bay, Ala., and Beth Sewell of Carrollton, Ga.; his nephews, Bod Edwards of Baton Rouge, Kenneth Young of Vidalia, and Dr. Tom Young of Denham Springs, and his sister-in-law, Hazel Edwards Young of Jonesville.
Pallbearers were family and friends.

D. Breard Carpenter
Mr. D. Breard Carpenter, age 81, passed away at his home in Winnfield on Thursday, August 6, 2009.
He was the son of the late U.B. Carpenter and the late Doris Caldwell Carpenter.
He was president and general manager of the Carpenter Dept. Stores, once located in Winnfield, Jonesboro, Ruston, Jena, Pineville, and Jonesville.
He was a graduate of Winnfield High School and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, with a degree in Business Administration.
Mr. Carpenter was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a long time member of the National Retail Merchant Association and a 60 year member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He had been a private pilot since he was 16 years of age, and also held a Instrument Rating for many years. Breard was a charter member of the Pine Ridge Country Club and served 2 terms as its President. He was an avid golfer for many years.
Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife Emma Jo Jenkins Carpenter, two sisters Sandra Carpenter Lindsey of Huffman, Texas and Brenda Carpenter Michaud and husband Edward of Midwest City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield with Reverend C. W. "Jack" Jones officiating.
Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield.
Mattie B. Schiele
Sister Mattie Brown Schiele was born January 16, 1931, in Wildsville to the late Ike and Julia Brown. She was a dedicated Mother, Grandmother, and Sister who always put the interest of her family first.
Sister Schiele was converted at an early age and baptized by Rev. J. W. Hampton. She united with Old Daughters Baptist Church where she served faithfully in the usher ministry until her health began to fail. In December 2008, she united with Greater St. Mary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Dave Mays.
In 1947 she united in holy matrimony to James Schiele. To this union five children were born. She was a good Mother who always strived to do the very best for her children.
On Tuesday morning, July 28, 2009, the angel of God Almighty came to the bedside of Sister Schiele at 1:30 AM, whispered softly, and called her from earth to glory for eternal rest.
Two brothers, Ike Brown, Jr., and Cornell Brown preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories five daughters: Jacqueline Duke and Deborah Rogers, Monroe; Loretta (Clarence) Norl, Sicily Island; Carol (Kevin) Woods, Dallas; and Cynthia Schiele of Atlanta; three grandchildren (she reared as her own): Latoshia (Johnathan) Banks, Bossier City; Kenyatta (William)  Singleton, Baton Rouge; Sherbra (Olusegun) Shomefun, Atlanta; three sisters, Ida Jones, Wildsville; Bessie Ceasor, Waterproof; Annie (Calvin, Sr.) Holly, Jonesville; four brothers, James (Mary) Brown, Wildsville; Willie (Mary) Brown, Jonesville; Charles (Winnie) Brown, Ferriday; and Robert E. (Ethel) Brown of Vidalia; twenty-one grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a special friend for more than sixty years - Ethel F. Buford, a friend and neighbor, Helen Ceasor Jacobs, a special cousin Alice Simenton, her caregivers - Dana Smith and Judy Jynes; and other relatives and friends. A special thanks to granddaughter Jalisa K. Norl for being the shadow of Mattie. She was her personal nurse anytime of the day or night.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 1, 2009, at 2:30 PM at Greater St. Mary Baptist Church, Jonesville, with Rev. Dr. Dave Mays officiating and Sister Evelyn Wilkerson as director of service.
Interment followed at Old Daughter Cemetery under the direction of Gayden Funeral Home, Jena.
Pallbearers were Jerome Brown, Herman Ceasor, Jr., Murphy Harbor, Tyrone Harbor, Don Holly, and Marvin Holly.
Honorary pallbearers were Bryan Collins, DeWarren Collins, Bwana Cummings, Edward Cummings, Calvin Holly, Jr., Jamye Matt Johnson, Johnny Johnson, Jr., and DeMarcus Schiele.
