Kalin Preslee Wadlington
Graveside funeral services for infant daughter Kalin Preslee Wadlington, of
Vidalia,
were held at Lone Pine Cemetery, Monterey, on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at 1:00 PM with Bro. Daven Huss and Bro. Paul Avery
officiating under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Kalin reborn to Eternal Life on Wednesday, July 08, 2009 at Natchez Community
Hospital, Natchez, Ms.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Charles Wadlington,
maternal grandparents W. J. and Georgia Cox, two uncles Perry and Tommy Cox,
and aunt Mary Jenkins.
Kalin is survived by her parents Kevin and Jennifer Wadlington of Vidalia, and
two brothers Cory and Cole Wadlington of Vidalia.
She is also survived by her paternal Grandmother Jane Wadlington of Vidalia,
uncle-Jeffrey and LaNan Wadlington of Natchez, uncle-Jerrol Cox of Vidalia,
aunt-Alma and Eddie Poole of Monterey, and aunt-Pam Cox of Natchez.
The Pallbearers were Taylor and Jeffrey Wadlington.

Mary Ann DeSanto
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ann DeSanto, age 55, a longtime resident of
Jonesville, were held at Young's Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, July 13, 2009,
at 3 PM with Rev. Bryan Taylor officiating under the direction of Young's
Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mary was born November 10, 1953, in Natchez, MS, the daughter of Jimmy
Strickland and Betty Jo Keith, and passed from this life Tuesday, July 07,
2009, at her residence in Jonesville.
Mary and her family moved to Washington when she was much younger, where she had
her children and made a life for herself. In 2005, Mary moved back here to
Louisiana to be with her mother. Mary enjoyed being with her family and
friends. She loved swimming, fishing, and just being with her family. She loved
her grandchildren very much. She was always trying to help someone. Mary had a
big heart, and always was there for anyone when they needed her. She will be
greatly miseed and forever be in our hearts. We all have lots of our own
memories of her and will always have those to remember her by.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Patricia Ann Cruz, brother
Danny Glenn Aswell, and aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her brother Shelton Ray Gilley and her children, two sons,
Jeff and Mike Strickland, and daughter, Amber Rodriguez.
Also surviving Mrs. DeSanto are her grandchidren, Taryn, Patricia, and Shantail
Strickland, Alexis Ziegelman, and Aleah, Alesia and Alena Rodriguez; as well as
two grandbabies on the way, Nicholas Albert Willarreal, and Baby.
She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jack Shelton Aswell
Funeral services for Mr. Jack Shelton Aswell, age 80, of Monterey, who died
Wednesday, July 8, 2009, in Alexandria, La., were held at 10 AM Friday, July
10, 2009, at Eva Church of God with the Rev. Kevin Sims, the Rev. Bobby
Ratcliff and the Rev. Lloyd Trisler officiating.
Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Comer Funeral Home
in Ferriday.
Mr. Aswell was born September 12, 1928, in Eva, the son of Jack E. and Lola C.
Aswell. He was a commercial fisherman and was a member of Eva Church of God.
Mr. Aswell was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Bubba Aswell and Danny Glen
Aswell; one daughter, Jackie May; one brother, Bud Aswell; and one sister,
Margie Frith.
Survivors include one son, Reggie Lyn Aswell and wife, Bobbie; one daughter,
Cynthia Aswell Charpentier, all of Monterey; one brother, Willie Aswell of
Jonesville; one sister, Inez Gilmer of Lake St. John; 11 grandchildren, Melissa
Aswell
Adams and husband, W.L., Mitchell Aswell, Mikel Barfoot, Aaron Charpentier,
Jacob Charpentier, Alisa Domangue and husband, Gary, and Jaclyn Aswell, all of
Monterey, Michelle Hearst and husband, Vernon, of Yazoo City, Brandon Morgan
and wife, Kristie, of Farmerville, La., Danny Aswell Jr. and Anthony Aswell;
five great-grandchildren, Dylan Aswell, Sydney Smith, Wyatt Luckett, Shelton
Hearst and Preston Morgan; and special friends, Oscar Finley, James Lee Paul,
Leroy Paul, Robbie Morace, Johnny Mackey, Ralph Hill and James Miller Crouch.
Pallbearers were Seab Mount, Darrell Brigman, Chancey Frith, Buddy Hedrick, W.L.

Maxcine Mize
Funeral services for Mrs. Maxcine Mize, age 87, of Waterproof, will be held at
Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday today,
Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at 10 AM with Bro. Ron Ledford and Bro. Curtis Smith
officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Natchez, MS under the
direction of Young's Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Mrs. Mize was born May 8, 1922, the daughter of Elisha and Jane Webb, in
Eldorado, AR. She departed this earthly veil Sunday, July 12, 2009, surrounded
by her beloved family to enter the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
and her awaiting loved ones that had preceded her.
She was a resident of Waterproof, a home maker, and a member of the Calvary
Baptist Church.
Mrs. Mize was preceded in death by her husband Guy Clinton Mize; sons Robert
Daniel Mize, Sr., and Johnny Mize; grandchildren, Robert Daniel Mize, Jr., John
Wesley Mize II, and Sharon Walker; brothers, Alton Webb and Dalton Webb; and
sisters, Charlene Walters, Mary Bankston, and Trudy Bankston.
Mrs. Mize is survived by her children, Owen Mize of Ferriday, Ray Mize and his
wife Anna of Waterproof, Richard Mize and his wife Brenda of Waterproof, Evelyn
Mohon and her husband Willard of Vidalia, Ann Walker and her husband George of
Waterproof, Wanda Fife and her husband Kenny of Waterproof, Darline Sweat and
her husband Jerry of Ferriday, and Becky Lee and her husband Johnny of
Monterey; and her sister, Peggy Southern of Winnsboro.
Also surviving Mrs. Mize are numerous grand-, great-, and
great-great-grandchildren.
The Pallbearers will be her grandsons Larry Mize, Matt Long, Guy Long, Joey
Mize, Timothy Mize, Lenny Mize, Brad Fife, Clinton Sweat, and Aaron Crawford.
Ritchie Mize will be an Honorary Pallbearer.

Mary R. McCarver
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Reitzell McCarver, age 88, of Jonesville, were
held at 11AM Tuesday, July 14, 2009, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral
Home in Jena with Rev. Sherman Jones officiating.
Interment followed at Woodland Cemetery in Jena.
Mary was born September 20, 1920, the daughter of Alvin and Lucy Reitzell in
Kelly, and she passed from this life on July 12, 2009, at The Columns Community
Care Center in Jonesville.
Mary was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Sandy Lake. She loved
working crossword puzzles and crocheting. She also loved gardening, canning,
and cooking. She was a great cook. She was preceded in death by her husband:
Howard McCarver; her son: Jerry Wayne McCarver; three brothers: Bill Reitzell,
Homer Reitzell, and Wilbur Reitzell; sister: Louise Crumley; great-grandson:
Brian Bailey McCarver.
Mary is survived by two sons: Gordon McCarver and his wife Barbara of
Jonesville; Byron McCarver and his wife Tommie of Ferriday; daughter-in-law:
Kay McCarver; two brothers: Paul Reitzell of Arkansas, and Luther Reitzell of
Grayson; two sisters: Bessie Crain LaBorde of Winnsboro, and Leatrice Benson of
Clarks; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Wesley McCarver, Brian McCarver, Michael Sanders, Ronnie Mason,
Chad Foster, and Cody Fuller.
Honorary pallbearers were Ryan and Cody Mason.

John Vallie Harper, Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. John “Jay” Vallie Harper, Jr., were held at 4 PM Sunday, July 12, 2009, in the Chapel of
Hixson Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Perry Gardner officiating.
Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery in Jena under the direction of
Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.
Mr. Harper, age 60, was born November 27, 1948, the son of John Sr. and Grace
Viola Champlin Harper, and passed from this life on July 10, 2009, in his
residence in Jonesville.
He was a manager for Catahoula Net Company. He proudly served his country in the
U. S. Navy.
Mr. Harper is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Trisha Harper; his
son, John V. Harper III; his sister, Nita McCauley; and his brother, Carlos
Johnson.
He is survived by his wife Mary Harper of Jonesville; his daughter Jeanne Harper
of New Orleans; and three grandchildren, Michael Harper, Brooke Harper, and
Kyra Harper.
Pallbearers were Reggie Craig, James "Bubba" Williamson, Dewayne "Dog" Wright,
Benny Champlin, Lee Charpentier, and Ronnie Champlin.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Harper, Gary Goodart, Tommy Randall, Johnnie
