Earline Berry Wilcox
Mrs. Earline Berry Wilcox, age 85, a resident of St. Francisville, LA and a
native of Harrisonburg,
died on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at West Feliciana Parish Hospital.
She was retired after working as a registered nurse for thirty years for East
Louisiana State Hospital in Jackson, LA, and for over ten years for Idlewood
Nursing Home in St. Francisville.
The funeral services were held on Friday, May 8, 2009 at Mt. Carmel Catholic
Church in St. Francisville at 11 AM, conducted by Rev. Charles Landry.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Wilcox is survived by two children: her daughter, Janice W. Eason and her
husband Richard Paul Eason, Sr. of Ruston, LA; and John C. Wilcox of St.
Francisville; and three sisters: Jenny Head, Hazel Enright and Carolyn Laing.
She is also survived by six grandchildren: Christy Eason Albritton and her
husband Jeff, Richard Paul Eason, Jr., Rachel Wilcox, John Fred Wilcox and his
wife Stephanie, Shane Wilcox, and Jennifer Creasy and her husband Adam; and six
great-grandchildren: Alec Eason Albritton, Georgia May Albritton, Carson
Wilcox, Hannah Wilcox, Emma Rae Wilcox, and Anna Creasy.
Mrs. Wilcox was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Wilcox, her parents,
Walter and O. D. Berry, two brothers: P. W. and Henry Berry, three
brothers-in-law, Jimmy Enright, Jim Head, and Arthur Ray Laing, a nephew, Jimmy
Enright, Jr, and niece, Cheryl Enright.
Pallbearers were all grandsons and nephews: John Fred Wilcox, Paul Eason, Jr.,
Ricky Wilcox, Freddie Wilcox, David Wilcox, Dr. Charlie Daniel, Robert Daniel,
and Eddie Daniel. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Larry Schneider, Michael
Bennett, Billy D
’Aquilla, Jimmy Randall, McGehee Reed, Glenn Greer, Al Osterberger, Tom McVea,
Bill Shoemake, Ed Shields, Jimmy Wilcox, Tommy Rabalais and Birchman Trichel.
She was selected as the State of Louisiana “Older Worker of the Year” on March 9, 1993, in her division. Mayor of St. Francisville Billy D’Aquilla proclaimed the week of March 29, 1993 as Earline Wilcox, Older Worker of
the Year Week.

Paul J. Yates
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Paul J. Yates, age 88, of Monterey, formerly
of Vidalia, were held at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Friday, May 8, 2009, at 10
AM with Bro. Leon Zordan officiating
under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Vidalia.
Mr. Yates was born June 13, 1920, in Augusta, KS, the son of Paul Kenneth Yates
and Ruth Marie
Yates, and passed from this life Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at Natchez Regional
Medical Center Natchez.
He was a resident of Monterey, a cattleman and farmer. Mr. Yates proudly served
his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army.
He and his two brothers, Franklin and Waldo, enlisted together two years before
Pearl Harbor, and trained at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.
Paul trained in field artillery and reached the rank of Sergeant. He was
accepted to OCS and reached the rank of 2nd Lt.
He trained artillery spotters for airplane warfare.
As a member of the AmericaL Division, he was originally deployed to New Caledonia
immediately after Pearl Harbor with the mission to keep Japanese from
controlling Australia.
After that threat passed, his division was the first one sent to Guadalcanal to
relieve the Marine division.
After that, his division was sent to Vouganville. He participated in the Phillippean invasion with General Douglas McArthur. Paul's division's responsibility was to recapture Cebu. Once on Guadacanal, Paul's plane was about to run out of fuel. It was night. On the horizon Paul saw a blue light, he followed the light home.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Crystal Whorton Yates and Carnelia Smith
Yates; and brothers, Waldo and Franklin Yates.
Paul is survived by his children, Donna Betts and her husband Chuck of Agelton,
Tx., David Yates and his wife Ellen of Vidalia, and Danny Yates and his wife
Jan of Natchez, Miss.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brian Betts and Julia, Brent Betts,
Dave Yates, Holly McDaniel and Shane, Doug Yates and Angela, and Taylor Yates.
Also surviving are 7 great-grandchildren and his sister, Cathrine Marie Watson
of Boise, Idaho.
The Pallbearers were Dave Yates, Doug Yates, Taylor Yates, Brian Betts, Brent
Betts, and Shane McDaniel.

Mildred Branson
Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Branson, age 70, of Sicily Island, will be
held on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 11 AM at the Martin Jr. High School at
Sicily Island with the Rev. Dr. L. B. Oliver officiating.
Interment will follow in the New Salem Cemetery of Sicily Island under the
direction of Richarson
& Sims Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Branson passed from this life on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at her residence.
Visitation will be Friday, May 15, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at St. Paul Baptist
Church in Sicily Island.
Mrs. Branson is survived by her husband Landon Branson III; two sons, Russell
Branson of Sicily Island and Landon Branson IV of Monroe; and three daughters,
Neomi Branson, Shelia Counsel, and Linda Kerry, all of Sicily Island.
She is also survived by three brothers, Jackie Roy Ambers of Baton Rouge, Albert
Ambers of Sicily Island, and Andrew Ambers, Jr., of Detroit, MI; and seven
sisters, Katie Mae Dorsey of Sicily Island, Carrie Reynolds of New Orleans,
Edna Bingham, Bertha Boykins, Velma Sue Bailey and Barbara Jean Davis,
all of Detroit, and Marie Mullins of Redford, MI.
Also surviving Mrs. Branson are 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
