Clyde Elmo Korn
CROWLEY Texas -- Clyde Elmo Korn, 90, of Crowley, a retired longshoreman in the lumber industry, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, in Joshua.
       Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Protestant Chapel at St. Francis Village in Crowley. Interment: Caddo Cemetery in Joshua. Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Village, prior to the service.
       Clyde Elmo Korn was born July 8, 1919, in Harrisonburg, La., to Fred and Pennelope Hart Korn. He proudly served his country in the Navy Air Corps during World War II, flying Corsairs attached to aircraft carriers. He married Helen Maxine Sampson on Feb. 20, 1945, in Corpus Christi. He was a member of the Protestant Chapel at St. Francis Village and loved salmon fishing in the Pacific Northwest. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and a grandson, Josh Taylor.
       Survivors: Wife of 65 years, Helen Korn of Crowley; son, Dale Korn and wife, Mary, of Booneville, Ark.; daughter, Beverly Taylor and husband, Larry, of Joshua; brothers, Otis Korn and wife, Dot, of Monroe, La., JT Korn and wife, Katherine, of Dry Prong, La., Richard Korn of Baton Rouge, La.; sister, Audrey Johnson of Harrisonburg, LA; granddaughters, Kari James and husband, Larry, Jennifer King and husband, Stephen, Celesta Harris and husband, Blake; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
D.J. “Jack” Douga
Funeral services for D. J. "Jack" Douga, 99 ,of Jonesville, formerly of Baton Rouge, LA were held at Wallace Ridge Baptist Church on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Bro. Jim McKeithen and Bro. Kenneth Hoots officiating. Interment followed at Heard Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Jonesville.
Mr. Douga was born December 25, 1910 in Elton, LA and passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday. He was a member of Wallace Ridge Baptist Church, and a former member of Goodwood Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, for 34 years. He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor, for the State of Louisiana at the Old State Capitol Building. He joined the Merchant Marines back in 1937. He had a passion for cooking, which landed him many jobs as a chef over the years. He was a professional cook, and a professional painter. He lived a very active life. He never wanted to sit around, he was always finding something to keep him busy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marise Sylvest Douga; his father, Dorceno Douga; his mother, Onezila (LeBleu) Douga; two brothers, Vilmore Douga and Cleveland Douga; one sister, Josephine Douga; one great grandson, Brian Bailey McCarver; and a son-in-law, Jerry Wayne McCarver.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay McCarver of Jonesville, LA; three grandchildren, Brian McCarver and wife Jessica of Harrisonburg, LA, Karen Weeks and husband J.D. of Natchez, MS, and Michele McCarver of Jonesville; six great grandchildren, Chad Foster, Whitney Weeks, Heather Weeks, Dylan McCarver, Daven McCarver, and Blair Smith; a great-great grandson, Jack Foster; and a sister, Beatrice Tate of Shreveport, LA.
Pallbearers were Wesley McCarver, Gordon Ray McCarver, Brian McCarver, Chad Foster, and J. D. Weeks.
Morris Ray Arthur
Funeral services for Mr. Morris Ray Arthur, 56, of Ferriday, LA were held at Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ray Varnado officiating and Al Ater delivering the eulogy. Interment followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Morris Ray was born December 24, 1953 in Ferriday, LA and passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 at home with his family by his side. He was a lifelong resident of Ferriday, a farmer, and he was a member of Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church in Ferriday. Morris Ray will be remembered by all that knew him as a kind and fun loving man. He was a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His memory will be cherished by all that knew him, as a man of character, honor, and respect. He loved his family unconditionally and was especially proud of his granddaughter Anna Bett, who gave him great pleasure since her birth. Morris Ray will be remembered as a hardworking man and friend that you could count on.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Arthur.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Arthur of Ferriday; a son, Brannon Arthur and wife Kristy of Vidalia, LA and granddaughter Anna Bett; a son, Barrett Arthur of Ferriday, and Whitney Bradford; his mother, Margaret Arthur of Ferriday; and two brothers, Hugh Arthur and wife Kay of Bastrop, LA, and
Bobby Arthur and Jennie of Ferriday.
Pallbearers were friends of the family.
