CPSO assists in two drug arrests   (published December 2, 2009)
The Catahoula Parish Sheriff's Office was involved in two recent drug arrests by two neighboring parishes.
In the first case, CPSO received a tip of possible drug activity by Donald Chevallier. Sheriff James Kelly notified LaSalle Parish, where Chevallier lives, and after a LaSalle Parish investigation, search warrants for Chevallier's residence were signed. Sheriff Kelly sent two narcotics officers to help LaSalle with the search warrant, and both Chevallier and Lori Book of Jonesville were arrested on drug charges.
The next case involved Franklin Parish. CPSO had Jimmy Ray Nobles of Harrisonburg under surveillance, and suspected him of drug activity.
CPSO shared their information with surrounding parishes, and Franklin Parish continued the surveillance when Nobles entered their area.
FPSO Narcotics officers allegedly observed Nobles buying precursors for crystal meth from several local drug stores and made the arrest.
Sheriff Kelly chalked up both arrests to having a good working relationship with surrounding parishes' law enforcement personnel.
Jonesville native travels state promoting new book   (published December 2, 2009)

Block High Graduate Lynda Wurster Deniger is traveling the state to keep the traditions and fun of shrimping alive with her newly released children ’s book, Salty Seas and His Heroic Friends.
This first book in the Salty series tells the story of a saucy, south Louisiana shrimp boat with a caring captain and a few local friends. Salty along with his colorful pals, Sammy Seagull, Patti Pelican, and Dottie Dolphin prove they are made of the same stuff as heroes when Captain Charley gets knocked overboard.
Loveable stuffed animals, bells and whistles and the accompanying “Salty Seas Toot Toot” song help to bring the Salty characters to life in Deniger’s live interactive drama often performed at festivals, schools and book signings.
Children not only learn the importance of teamwork, friendship and just having fun, but a few of the things Deniger also learned on her road to becoming an author.
While visiting Natchitoches Parish schools last month, Deniger visited journalism and English literature classes at Northwestern State University from which she received a Journalism degree in 1974 and recounting her varied experiences in the field of advertising and journalism.
The idea for Salty Seas was conceived more than 20 years ago as Deniger watched shrimp boats trawling near the shoreline of Grand Isle, Louisiana. “I wrote the entire story in one sitting and truly believe it was God-inspired,” said Deniger.
Deniger who didn’t like to read until the eighth grade said that her teacher, Mrs. Helen Riley, changed all that. “Today I not only love to read but hope to instill the same love for reading in children through my book series, ” she said.
Master storyteller Frank Levy of Stories in Motion states that the book is “a charming tale that blends good storytelling and sparkling illustrations with exciting, real-life events. ”
“The book is just gorgeous, very educational and entertaining,” said  Jean Holmes, Acquisitions, Louisiana State Library, who purchased copies for the Louisiana room at the library.
Deniger is scheduled to perform the book during the Catahoula Library’s summer children’s program in June.
Salty Seas and His Heroic Friends is available online, at Barnes and Noble stores and numerous bookstores and gift shops around the state. To order or for more information, visit Salty ’s website at  www.saltyseasandfriends.com.  To contact Deniger for school and library visits, email her at  info@saltyseasandfriends.com
