The Concordia Parish, LA, Sheriff’s Office is seeking information concerning the whereabouts of a Monterey, man missing since Friday, Nov. 6.
The family of Robert L. Wells, 61, says it’s very unusual for him to disappear without contacting anyone by phone. Wells has family in Louisiana and in Houston, TX..
“He talks to everyone all the time,” notes Wells’ sister, Phyllis Wells of Houston. “That’s why it’s extremely odd for him not to make a call or answer his phone since Friday.”
Wells is a black male, 6-feet tall, 185 pounds, with gray hair and a gray moustache. He suffered a stroke in June and is said to still have very high blood pressure. Family members are concerned that he may not have his medication
with him.
A brother last saw him about 8 a.m. last Friday, and believes that Wells left his Finley Road residence in Monterey shortly after their visit and before 9 a.m. driving his 1997 black, two-door Chevrolet Blazer. The Louisiana license plate number is  SDS207. The vehicle also has an LSU plate on the front.
It is believed that Wells purchased an auto part at Auto Zone in Ferriday Friday afternoon, Nov. 6. “We’re hoping that someone may have worked on his car after that and maybe remembers Robert saying where he was going, ” said his brother, Marty Wells.
According to him, the missing man’s three children who reside in Texas have not heard from their father either.
 Anyone with any information
concerning the whereabouts of Robert Wells is asked to immediately contact the Concordia Parish Sheriff ’s Office at 318-757-3162, 318-336-5231 or 318-386-2200.

Grand Marshals announced for Jonesville Parade   (published November 18, 2009)
The Jonesville Christmas Parade Committee has announced that the Grand Marshals for 2009 Christmas Parade are Corbin Carpenter and Cydney Brown.
Corbin and Cydney are a couple of our local High School Rodeo members.
Corbin is the son of DeWitt and Theresa Carpenter. Cydney Brown is the daughter of Bill and Cynthia Brown.
The theme chosen this year is “Christmas Roundup”.   The date is set for Friday December 4, 2009.
The route has changed this year to start at Fourth and Wedon and continue to the Rodeo Arena. At the Rodeo Arena, we will have live entertainment, food and crafts, and fireworks! The line up will start at 5 p.m. at the Elementary School,
with the parade rolling at 6 p.m. sharp!
We are planning to have a “market” of vendors, businesses, organizations and individuals that will be set up at the arena before and after the parade.  They will be selling food, crafts, t-shirts, Blue Frog, and many other things.
We will also have a children’s area that will include a “jumper,” games, and Santa.  A place will be set up so the children can come see Santa, sit in his lap, and tell him what they want for Christmas. A photographer will be there to capture the moment forever!
We need floats!  If you are interested in entering a float, entry forms will be available at Carpenter ’s Department Store and at Jonesville Office Supply.  You
can also call Jimi 403-0122 or Jenelle 403-0885.
The rules are the same as past years.
No one is allowed to have a Santa on their float or vehicle.  There is only ONE Santa in our parade and he comes straight from the North Pole each year!
No one under the age of 21 is allowed to drive a vehicle, and a valid driver’s license is required.
There are no four-wheelers allowed. No motorcycles will be allowed without prior approval.
There is a deadline for entry in the parade, and it is December 2.
With your help, this can be our biggest parade ever.

FSA Elections underway    (published November 18, 2009)
J. Kevin Routon County Executive Director for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Catahoula and LaSalle Parishes reminds farmers and ranchers that 2009 FSA county committee elections are underway as ballots have been mailed to all known eligible voters.  December 7, 2009, is the deadline for eligible voters to return ballots to their local FSA offices.
“The FSA county committee system is unique among government agencies, because it allows producers to make important decisions concerning the local administration of federal farm programs," said Routon.  “I urge all eligible farmers and ranchers, especially minorities and women, to get involved and make a real difference in their communities by
voting in this year's election. “
Committee members apply their knowledge and judgment to make decisions on commodity price support loans and payments; conservation programs, incentive indemnity and disaster payments for some commodities; emergency programs and payment eligibility. FSA committees operate within official regulations designed to carry out federal laws.
To be an eligible voter, farmers and ranchers must participate or cooperate in FSA programs.  A person who is not of legal voting age, but supervises and conducts the farming operations of an entire farm, can also vote.  Agricultural producers in each county submitted candidate names during the nomination period held this past
summer.
Eligible voters, who did not receive a ballot, may obtain ballots at the Catahoula-LaSalle Parishes FSA Office.  Remember, ballots returned by mail must be postmarked no later than December 7.  Newly elected committee members and alternates will take office January 1, 2010.
Close to 8,000 FSA county committee members meet monthly at more than 2,300 FSA offices nationwide.  Each committee consists of three to five members who serve three-year terms.  Approximately one-third of county committee seats are up for election annually.  For more information about FSA county committees and FSA programs, visit: http://www.fsa.usda.gov.
