The Catahoula Parish Sheriff's Office stayed busy last week with five drug related arrests.
On October 6, investigators arrested a mother and son duo following a month-long investigation triggered by an anonymous tip concerning possible illegal drug activity. Madaline Cecile Wattik, 51, of Jonesville was charged with improper lane usage and possession of Schedule 4 CDS. Her arrest led investigators to her son, Donnie Dale of Jonesville. Catahoula deputies were assisted by Concordia Parish deputies in Dale's arrest. He was charged with possession of Schedule 4 CDS and a parole violation.
Also on October 6, the Sheriff's Office received a complaint concerning illegal drug activity in Young's Trailer Park in Jonesville. Deputies arrived on the scene and arrested Tiffany Ann Christian, 29, at her residence and charged her with possession of drug paraphernalia.
On October 7, while working drug interdiction, deputies arrested Linda Grant Dupre, 48, of Jonesville on charges of driving under suspension and possession of Schedule 3 CDS.
On October 9, investigators were following up on a complaint filed the night before about a stolen log truck in the Harrisonburg Hills. The investigation led to the arrest of Curtis Butler, Jr., 33, of Jonesville. Curtis, who allegedly had not only the log truck, but also a deer carcass and small amount of marijuana, was booked on multiple charges, including aggravated criminal damage to property, felony theft, unauthorized use of a moveable, taking a deer during illegal hours, and possession of marijuana.
Sheriff Kelly along with Jonesville Police Chief Bubba Roy, Deputy Darren Cooper, and the Sheriff Department's K-9 team of Deputy Robert Wiley and Max were on hand for a spot search of Block High School lockers and classrooms last Wednesday. The search turned up no drugs at the school.

Jones-Liddell Feud re-enactment plans progressing    (published October 14, 2009)
Those who attend the presentation of the Jones Liddell Feud on Saturday, November 7th will be in for a treat.  The 2009 Feud will be bigger and much more professional this year.  Last year’s Feud was a “learning experience.”  Each year, as the Feud is presented, it will grow, as many more events will be added for the public to enjoy.
We have added the following for 2009.  A new character, the “ghost of ole’ Mrs. Glen” has been added to the cast.  A stage curtain to hide the scene changes is being made by Laura Elliott and Gladys Elliott.  Music promoting the theme from the soundtrack, “Gone with the Wind,” will be played by Allan Bean during the scene changes. An authentic sounding boat whistle, devised by David Ryan, will announce the steamboat St. Mary ’s departure from Llanada Plantation to the docks at Garrett’s Landing, the Elmly Dock, and Beard’s Landing.  If possible, lapel mikes will be worn by the actors in order for them to be heard.  Sam Renfrow will supply a covered wagon and horse for the Glen Ditch scene, and Joe Higdon will be the driver.
Committees are hard at work.  The Props committee will soon be building scenery out at one of the airport buildings, which includes a section of the Elmly House, a steamboat paddle wheel, and bales of cotton for the steamboat scene,  Vendors are signing up for the day with Jimi Johnson.  Children will be delighted to know that again, artist Sandra Carlton will paint faces that day, and her students ’ artwork will also be on display.  The Publicity Committee is working on the following:  Dot Lazarus is writing newspaper articles, Catherine Jones, Mickie Brown, and Mary Edwards are printing flyers and will distribute them to all town businesses and at Block football games; Bill Atkins, in authentic costume, will appear on Channel 5 a nd Channel 8 TV stations.  The Jonesville Woman’s Club members, Jackie Rouse, Sue Sandifer, and Doris Taylor, are planning their “snack” booth which will be down in the park.  The Jones-Liddell Feud book, written by William Davis Cotton, will be for sale for $4.00 at various places in the park.  The original revolver used in the steamboat scene will be available for viewing at the park.  According to Wayne Elliott, all of the actors are now in place, but we will save that list for another day.
The Feud will be held at the park, “come rain or come shine”; Block High Auditorium is not an option because of the gun shooting scenes.  So, bring your umbrellas.  If needed,   tents will be set up at the site.  The Town of Jonesville crew will be available to get the site ready and to move props for us on “Re-enactment Day.”
At this point, I would like to thank everyone who has had a part to date in this preparation.  So many people are doing so much.  At a later date, I will include a list of all who played such an important part.
