Churchfest 2009 to be two-day event Sept. 18 and 19  (published August 19, 2009)
This week churches all around Catahoula and nearby Concordia Parishes will be registering for  CHURCH FEST 2009.
This year the local festival of churches will be a two-day event scheduled for Friday evening, September 18, and Saturday, September 19, with the deadline for registering set for this Friday, August 21st.
Host of the festival since its beginning in 1999 is First United Methodist Church of Jonesville, and Rev. Leon Zordan, Jr., and the congregation hope to welcome a record crowd this year.
A modern-day, kicked up version of the traditional “dinner on the grounds” along with a little bit of carnival atmosphere, CHURCH FEST is the biggest party around entirely devoted to giving glory and honor to our Lord.  CHURCH FEST will begin Friday evening at 5:30 PM with worship and choir services and gospel singing including a first-time “gospel jam” to cap off the evening. There may even be a round of Church Family Feud on Friday depending on the number of rounds of competition. And, of course, the delicious food booths will be available, so plan to enjoy your supper while you ’re there. (Sorry, Mrs. Laverne’s chicken and dumplings will only be available on Saturday.)
This year’s food competitions include red beans and rice, which will be judged by the guest pastors Friday evening at 6:30, and also layer cakes, which the pastors will judge Saturday after lunch.
With a slightly different twist to our Bible Stories Parade, this year’s parade will be a Children’s Bible Stories parade with participants being under the age of 18. Tricycles, Big-Wheels, bicycles, four-wheelers, walking entries, anything except automobiles, can be entered. The children portraying Biblical characters and stories on miniature floats. The parade will begin at 9 AM Saturday morning traveling up Mound Street and back to the church to start the day ’s festivities, followed by the welcome at 9:30 in the courtyard of the church. There is fun for everyone all the way through the last gospel-singing group and worship service early that afternoon.
Included in the day’s activities are the balloon lift-off, the beautiful presentation of church banners, numerous food booths, the always popular pastors ’ dunking booth, a section just for kids, “the kids’ corner,” the fierce volleyball tournament and the 3rd year of the hilarious “Church Family Feud,” which will have Meyers Bend Pentecostal Church defending their title.
There are sure to be plenty of delicious cakes and pies to bid on in the Sweet Tooth Auction, and be sure to bring out your favorite photo to enter in the Photo Contest. New this year will be the Diaper Derby! You don ’t want to miss these charming little contestants crawling and toddling their way to victory.
There is something for everyone at CHURCH FEST.  The entire community is invited whether affiliated with a church, or not. Traditionally, there are seven or eight different mini-worship services throughout the festival. If you are looking for a church to call home, it ’s entirely possible that you may find one to your liking while at CHURCH FEST.
This festival is absolutely for every church who would like to participate so R.S.V.P. by this Friday. For more information, call Cindy Sanders at 481-1466 or 339-6224 (h) after 5 PM.
