The Catahoula Police Jury elected its new officers MOnday night during its regular meeting.
While Libby Ford retained her seat as Jury President, she was joined by Delores McEntyre as Vice-President, who took over from 2009 vice-president Gary Wright.
Ford later said she had spoken to the head of the Louisiana Police Jury Association.
"He said that as far as he knew, this is the first time in Louisiana history that two women have headed a police jury," said Ford.
Both ladies were voted into their respective positions unanimously with Jackie Paulk providing the nomination and J.D. Alexander the second for Ford, and Wright giving the nomination and Billy Fletcher the second for McEntyre.
In other business during the meeting, the Jury heard from Catahoula OEP Director Ellis Boothe.
Boothe said he had applied through FEMA for funds to cover weather damage sustained during October and noted that FEMA would be holding parish meetings to discuss disaster relief in Catahoula in the near future.
The Jury also agreed to purchase a Ford F-150 Crew Cab for Florence Hargis, the Parish Sanitarian. Ford noted that the purchase of the vehicle was under state contract and would be paid for with Health Unit funds.
Ending the meeting, the Jury announced the office and the Maintenance Barn would be closed on Monday, January 18, 2010 in observance of the Martin Luther King Holiday.
